What is SPC flooring?

SPC stands for stone plastic composite. It's a type of luxury vinyl with a rigid core made mainly from limestone powder and PVC, under a printed design and a clear wear layer. The rigid core makes the boards stable and stiff, and the whole board is 100% waterproof. See how SPC compares with LVT and laminate.

Why choose SPC click?

  • No glue: the boards click together and float over the subfloor.
  • Underlay attached: nothing extra to buy, and you shouldn't add another underlay underneath.
  • Waterproof: suits kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and busy hallways.
  • Tough: our SPC is 5.5–6mm thick with a 0.55–0.7mm wear layer.

Fitting SPC: the essentials

  • Acclimatise the unopened packs flat in the room for at least 24 hours (48 if they've been somewhere cold), at 18–27°C.
  • The subfloor must be sound, clean, dry and flat: aim for no more than about 3mm deviation under a 2m straightedge. On concrete or screed, test for moisture (75% RH or below) and check the manufacturer's guidance on whether a damp-proof membrane is also needed.
  • Leave an expansion gap of around 5–8mm (or as the manufacturer specifies) around the edges, pipes and door frames, and stagger end joints by at least 300mm.
  • Don't fit kitchen units or islands on top of a floating floor. Fit the floor up to them.

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your product, which take priority. Full details are in our fitting and subfloor preparation guide.

Questions

Good to know

Can SPC flooring go over tiles?

Often, yes. SPC click can go over sound, well-bonded ceramic tiles, provided the grout lines are filled level so they can't show through or cause movement. Never lay it over carpet.

Do I need underlay for SPC flooring?

No. All of our SPC floors have underlay already attached. Adding another underlay underneath can overload the click joints and void the warranty.

Can SPC go over underfloor heating?

Check the manufacturer's instructions for the specific product first. Where it's suitable, switch the heating off around 48 hours before, during and for 48 hours after fitting, bring it back up gradually (around 2°C a day), and never let the floor surface go above 27°C.

Is SPC better than LVT?

SPC is a type of LVT. SPC click is easier to fit and more forgiving, with underlay attached. Dryback LVT is thinner and glued down, which gives the most solid finish but needs a perfectly smooth subfloor. See all our LVT flooring.

How much SPC flooring do I need?

Measure each room's length and width in metres, multiply to get m², add about 10% for cutting and waste, then round up to whole packs. Each design page has a calculator.

Do you do samples?

Yes. Samples are free to collect, and can be full planks. Or we'll post 3 cut samples (about 8–10 inches) for £5, and that £5 comes off your order.

How much is delivery?

Tracked pallet delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £49.99, and free on flooring orders over £500. Premium van delivery within 150 miles of Leicester comes on your chosen date and time slot, into your room.
